Hamlet Café have partnered with us to provide pre-made meals to those most in need through the COVID-19 crisis. The State Government is providing funding for up to 400 meals per week! Hamlet Café make the meals, with fresh or frozen options available, and Hobart City Mission distributes them to those most vulnerable in the community.
A portion of the meals are distributed through our Emergency Relief Program, as an addition to normal food packs. Some of the meals are sent to the Safe Space program, which provides a safe place for people experiencing homelessness in Hobart.
Hobart City Mission had been experiencing significant supply-chain issues due to bans on bulk-buying at major supermarkets, so the partnership with Hamlet Café was a welcome initiative in order to ease these affects. The impact of Coronavirus on low-income and casual workers has been extreme and Hobart City Mission expects an increase in the number of people requiring access to food in the coming weeks and months.
