Safe Space

The Safe Space program is a safe 24 hour service for people who are experiencing homelessness in Hobart.

The program launched in December 2019 in partnership with The Salvation Army, and has already changed the lives of people living on the streets of Hobart.

How to access Safe Space

Safe Space is a 24 hour service, with two separate locations.  Our Day Program is open to anyone who needs a place of connection, some food, or to meet with service providers. Our Night Program is available through referral only from Housing Connect.

Safe Day Space

  • The Day Space is at the top of Hobart City Mission’s offices at 50 Barrack St, Hobart.
  • Opening hours are 8am to 6pm every day of the week, including weekends and public holidays (even Christmas Day!)
  • Anyone is welcome to come to the Day Space to access services, have a meal, or just have a chat with our friendly team. You do not need to make an appointment to come to the space.

How You Can Help

The Safe Space program is funded by the State Government. However, there are still a number of ways that you can support the people who access Safe Space:

  • Financial donations to our Emergency Relief program. Many of the clients who stay at Safe Space regularly use Emergency Relief, as well as other families struggling to make ends meet in our community – make a donation online, or call (03) 6215 4200

  • Donate items such as toiletries, food and sleeping bags.

  • Volunteer to set up and pack down the Safe Space night program.

The Safe Night Space Program was developed through conversations with real people sleeping on the streets of Hobart.
