How we can support you

Support with personal activities

We can support you with daily tasks and personal activities, so you can achieve the things that are important to you. This may be for just a couple of hours a day, or week, whatever suits you best.

This support will be different for everyone, but can include things like:

  • Support to get ready for the day
  • Cooking and cleaning
  • Personal care
  • Working towards your personal goals
  • Household tasks

We can help you build your skills and confidence to be more independent or simply be a helping hand when you need it.

Support to access your community

We can assist you to get out and about in your community, and do the things you love.

We can support you with community activities such as:

  • Spending time with your friends & family
  • Organising transport or using public transport
  • Working or volunteering
  • Shopping together
  • Recreational activities like sport, music, or other community events

How you spend your day is up to you! Community support can be on a regular basis or just every now and then.

Supported Independent Living

What is Supported Independent Living or SIL?

Supported Independent Living is support in your home. It is individual to you and often includes overnight support.

We aim to connect you to a property that is best for you, whether that’s living on your own or living with other people in a shared house.

Hobart City Mission has a number of Supported Independent Living houses. Click here to find out about our vacancies.

Supported Independent Living includes support such as:

  • Cooking and cleaning
  • Spending time in your community
  • Personal care
  • Working towards your personal goals
  • Household tasks

Disability Support for Older Australians (DSOA)

This program supports people living with a disability, who are over the age of 65 and ineligible for the NDIS. This service helps you to maintain the same level of support, choice and control as people registered under NDIA.

DSOA support can include support like:

  • Self care activities
  • Counselling
  • Case management
  • Supported Independent Living

DSOA support will depend on your individual support plan.

About NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme, or NDIS, provides funding to people living with a disability so they can access support services.

These supports might help them to:

  • Spend time with family & friends
  • Live more safely and comfortably
  • Gain education or employment
  • Participate in their community

Hobart City Mission is a NDIS accredited provider which means we can provide support under this funding.

To receive NDIS support, you will need an NDIS Plan.
