Right now, many Tasmanian families are facing hardship and homelessness. They desperately need access to services including housing, essentials, and support. No matter how strong, independent or resourceful those families are, without help, many of them will still end up with nowhere to call home. Tasmanian families need your help.
A very generous donor will be matching every dollar donated to the Winter Appeal before the 30th June 2021, up to $100,000. This means, that every dollar donated before the end of the financial year will help twice as many people who are doing it tough in Southern Tasmania. HCM is calling on the local community to donate now to make the most of this special offer, and double their impact.
Recently, the University of Tasmania The Tasmania Project survey found that 18% of Tasmanians were experiencing food insecurity in April and May this year. This includes 11% of households that experience food insecurity to such a degree that they regularly go without food. The survey also found that 30% of households who had lost income because of the pandemic were food insecure, compared with 12% for those whose income stayed the same.
Hobart City Mission’s Emergency Relief is one of the programs that receives funding from the Winter Appeal, and provides support through food packs and vouchers, budgeting and other financial assistance. The need for our Emergency Relief program is already stretched through the winter months, as families struggle to pay for electricity and warmer clothing. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that more and more Tasmanian families require support through the Emergency Relief program.
CEO, John Stubley, says that while it has been a long time since the COVID-19 lockdowns in Tasmania, the economic costs are still being felt.
“Right now, many Tasmanian families are facing hardship and homelessness”, says John. “They desperately need access to services including housing, essentials, and support”.
“Last year we saw an inpouring of donations, as people supported one another through COVID-19. The need hasn’t gone away, but the support is not there like it was last year. We’re urging people to continue to support their fellow Tasmanian’s who are still struggling to recover from the impact of the pandemic”.
You can have double the impact on people who are facing homelessness this winter.
If you donate before June 30 2021, YOUR DONATION will be DOUBLED, to help twice as many people doing it tough.
