Bringing joy to kids this Christmas

The Christmas Assistance Program provides families with food, supermarket vouchers and gifts for children – all thanks to donations from the local community.

Last year, the demand for Christmas Assistance was huge – up 35% from the year before!

We were concerned there wouldn’t be enough to go around.

But you made it happen! Your donations meant that over 1,000 families, and more than 1,700 children had a special Christmas.

Susan received Christmas Assistance last year, and shared the huge impact your support made:

“We were lucky to have help from Hobart City Mission last year, with toys, food packs and supermarket vouchers.

Between buying food and presents and trying to make the kids happy, it just helps immensely.

With the cost of living, things have just got harder. I worked for years in Disability Services, but I can no longer work because I injured my back. And my partner cares for his dad, so we’re both on pensions.

I was lucky enough to grow up in a family where Christmas was a big thing. We weren’t wealthy but I always looked forward to it. Presents under the tree and a Christmas lunch – that’s what makes it special.

And I really want that feeling for my kids too.

My daughter is 12 years old and she knows that we receive support from Hobart City Mission at Christmas. She’s seen when we’ve been in situations where it’s dire straits.

She’s really keen to be able to give back when she’s older and help other people.

The people who donate to Christmas Assistance make it so special. There are so many good people who choose to give and make sure we can have a special Christmas. I’m very appreciative”.
