Southern Tasmanians helping through the COVID-19 crisis

Thank you for supporting our Winter Appeal campaign to provide emergency relief to those most in need this winter. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the most vulnerable in our community needed your help more than ever.

You may remember Demi who shared her story about the impact COVID-19 had on her family.

Demi is a mother of four and the COVID-19 pandemic hit her young family incredibly hard – she struggled to afford the basics like nappies and food. She felt scared for her children – her oldest two have autoimmune diseases, meaning they were at very high risk if exposed to COVID-19.

Demi is waiting for the borders to reopen so she can take her boys to Melbourne for treatment but, in the meantime, she is very appreciative for the assistance and support she has received over the past twelve months with the Integrated Family Support Service.

Denise Brazendale, HCM’s Family & Community Coordinator, says “It has been an absolute pleasure to offer support to Demi and her family.

“Our integrated Family Support Worker, Angelique, has worked with and walked beside Demi and her children over the last twelve months to support Demi’s goals. Demi’s confidence has grown, she has met her goals, and is now in the position of being able to take her sons to Melbourne for treatment, as soon as the borders open”.

Once again, thank you for your kind and generous support.
