While the world adjusts to life during Coronavirus, Hobart City Mission has been busier than ever before, connecting people who give, with people in need – all from a safe distance of course!
While many of our staff are now working from home, our core services are still up and running. See below for a list of how our services are currently operating:
Emergency Assistance
Emergency Assistance is help with food and bills when you are struggling to make ends meet. You can receive a food pack from the below locations without making an appointment. You must have an appointment to receive further help such as food and petrol vouchers, utilities and referrals to other services.
Please call our office between 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday 6215 4200 to make an appointment at any of our locations. Appointments are limited so please make sure to call early.
- Hobart – 50 Barrack St, Hobart
Appointments are available Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5pm. Your appointment can only be made for the day after you call (i.e. if you call on Monday your appointment will be on Tuesday). Please note appointments at this location fill up quickly so be sure to call early.
- Moonah – 11 Main Rd, Moonah

We are also collecting donations of items at our stores during opening hours, or via a free donation collection.
Please call us on 0468 709 645 to arrange a free donation collection. We ask that you leave your donations outside of your house at the pick up time, in order to maintain physical distancing.
Family and Housing Support and Personal and Family Counselling
We have moved to online and phone services for these programs.
Disability Support Services
We’re continuing to support our Disability Participants in their group homes, taking the proper precautions to make sure they are safe and well.
Safe Night Space
The Safe Night Space shelter for people experiencing homeless is still open every night, with very stringent cleaning procedures and social distancing practices enforced.
Small Steps and DIY Dads
The Small Steps and DIY Dads programs continue to provide accommodation for young mums and their children, and fathers and their children. Again, all precautions recommended by the state and federal government are in place at these sites.
Donations
A big thank you to the people who responded to our call out for support over the past few weeks. With the ban on bulk-buying items at supermarkets, we were almost certain that we would run out of food. The support of the community has been amazing, with local businesses, individuals and community groups all donating their excess food. This enormous display of generosity has meant that we can continue to provide food packs to those most vulnerable at this time.
We could not help our clients without the support of our wonderful donors. We are sure that there will be a huge demand in the coming months, and your ongoing support will be crucial to meet this need.
We will keep you updated regularly through our website, and Hobart City Mission and City Mission Op Shops Facebook pages.
Please ensure you keep yourself and your family safe by practicing social distancing, and follow all directions from the government.
Wishing you and your family all the best,
Best Wishes,
John Stubley, CEO of Hobart City Mission
