Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get an appointment for Emergency Assistance?

To make an appointment, you can either make a booking in person at one of our offices or call 6215 4200 between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.  However, during times of high demand, spaces fill up quickly so the best time to call or visit is at 8:30 am or shortly afterwards.  We operate under a two day booking policy, which means we can only book an Emergency Assistance appointment on the day of your call or the following day.  Appointments are held at two separate locations:  50 Barrack Street, Hobart and 11 Main Road, Moonah.  Hobart appointments are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Moonah based appointments are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.  If you can't get an appointment, you may be eligible for a food pack that can be collected from either of our two offices during business hours.

What do I need to bring?

To enable us to make a proper Emergency Assistance assessment, you will need to bring a current Centrelink statement, payslip, Health Care card, and any receipts or bills.  If you are seeking assistance with Telstra or Aurora, we will need to see the bill along with any other related letters or notices and you need to be the account holder.  Assistance may be limited if these documents are not provided during your appointment.

Can I get assistance if I am urgently in need?

We always have emergency food packs at our Hobart office 5 days per week.  These can also be collected at our Moonah office which is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.  Vouchers, Aurora and Telstra assistance are only provided following an assessment through an Emergency Assistance appointment (see "How can I get an appointment for Emergency Assistance?" for details on appointment times).  Bread is available free of charge at our Hobart and Moonah offices and is limited to 2 loaves of bread per person.
