Labor hears our voice for a pokie free community.

The Tasmanian Labor Party released their policy for the removal of poker machines, today.

The policy includes:

  • $20 million “transitional support for venues that choose to surrender their machines prior to 2023”
  • $25 million “loan pool to provide long-term, low-interest loans to businesses transitioning to new business models”
  • $500,000 in grants to sporting clubs
  • $500,000 in “business development advice”
  • $4 million for “staff retraining and professional development”

“Today is a momentous day, where we can finally see our voices have been heard,” says Hobart City Mission CEO, John Stubley.

“I applaud Rebecca White and the Tasmanian Labor Party for their rigorous consultations with the community, local businesses and organisations to come to this decision, which we at Hobart City Mission believe is the best step forward to reducing the harm caused by poker machines in our community.

“We look forward to Rebecca White and her party joining the campaign to push for the removal of poker machines in our suburbs.

“We now strongly encourage the Liberal Party to re-consider their positions on poker machines and their role in our communities.”
