Program Coordinator – Small Steps

  • Full Time 12 month contract
  • Hobart based


Hobart City Mission has been supporting families in the Hobart Community for 164 years.  We are an organisation with Christian values, providing support to anyone in times of crisis or when extra support is needed.  Our services and programs aim to empower people and enable them to participate in community life with a sense of dignity, purpose and self-reliance.


The Small Steps program coordinator is responsible for monitoring and managing their own case loads, which includes providing a range of developmental services to young mums and their infants, assisting in the protection of children at risk engaged in the program and identifying where the young mums need to be referred to follow-up or long term services. 


Key responsibilities are:

  • Maintaining and safe and secure environment for the young mums
  • Providing relevant information to the young mums and their families about the program at time of referral
  • Supporting the young mums with self-improvement, building resilience and developing life skills
  • Assessing, parenting capacity and the developmental levels of infants
  • Ensuring children are safe and levels of risk are being monitored


We are looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal skills who can develop and maintain positive working relationships with residents and stakeholders, with the ability to be resourceful and take a practical approach to resolving problems in difficult situations.  You will enjoy working in an outcome-focussed position that requires excellent time management and organisational skills, and the ability to plan personal workloads and prioritise tasks to achieve results.


The successful person will have a degree or diploma in social work or similar, and a minimum two years working in a similar position.  You will have demonstrated experience in engaging and working with infants and families, understanding child development and familiarity with the relevant Acts, Regulations and Policies associated with working with children and families at riskExperience working with mental health issues is desirable.
